Division

Division is an arithmetic operation of  distributing number into equal parts. When we divide a number with another number we come across 4 components. They are-

  • DIVISOR- It is a number by which another number is to be divided.
  • DIVIDEND- It is the number to be divided.
  • QUOTIENT- It is the result obtained from division.
  • REMAINDER- It is the left over number which cannot be divided.

Division of large number becomes tough for kids and it takes a lot of time in comparison to addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Majority of the students face problem in division as they make silly mistakes and this mistake take a lot time to get noticed. Some of the tricks of division which made my calculations fast are-

METHOD 1:- BREAK THE NUMBER

Break the dividend into two parts of which one is a large number directly divisible by the divisor and the other is a small number.
For example- 1872÷16
this can be written as
=(1600+272)÷16
=(1600÷16) + (272÷16)
=100+17
=117

METHOD 2:- TRY TO MAKE DIVISOR AS MULTIPLE OF 10.

Lets take an example.
1542÷25
=1542÷ (100÷4)
=(1542*4) ÷100
=6168÷100
=61.68

Vedic mathematics

Vedic mathematics is a collection of techniques to solve time consuming mathematical problems in a fast way. Vedic is derived from Sanskrit word " Veda " which means knowledge. It was discovered by Indian mathematician  Shri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji and was first published in 1965. It consist of 16 sutras and 14 sub-sutra . Through this sutras and sub-sutras , complex and time consuming problems were solved quickly. Vedic mathematics is gaining popularity due to its fast and accurate results.
